Biography

Harpist Diane Evans brings the breadth and depth of her comprehensive professional career to her love of teaching.  During her 40-year tenure as Principal Harp of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and in earlier positions with the Toledo and Omaha Symphonies, she performed a vast repertoire of orchestral, concerto, chamber and solo works covering classical, contemporary, and popular genres.

She has performed in concert venues in the United States and Europe, as well as on major network and public television and radio, and in commercial recordings with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. She has also appeared as guest harpist with the St. Louis Symphony and Cincinnati Symphony. Evans has also appeared in concert at the American Harp Society National Conference and the National Flute Association Convention.

During her decades of teaching, Evans has guided harp students from beginners to professionals.  She mentors her students using an individualized approach to building their musicality, technique and problem-solving skills.  She has also worked as an audition and recital coach for professional string and wind players, and pianists.

Evans previously served on the faculty of Butler University and has taught at summer festivals including the Festival of 1000 Oaks, Symphony School of America, and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.

Evans received her Bachelor of Music at Oberlin Conservatory where she studied with renowned Cleveland Orchestra harpist Alice Chalifoux.
